I usually only go on TikTok to browse my FYP, but somehow, I also end up going down endless beauty trend holes because (as I’m sure you know) it’s way too easy to do so. This year especially, I found myself deep in the trenches of every hair trend users tried and loved along with a few not-so-stellar trends that I think we can leave in the past. Hundreds of trends circulate the platform daily, but I decided to break down the ones actually worth your time and energy.
If you want to change up your look without breaking the bank or doing anything too dramatic, there are definitely some trends on this list you’ll be excited to try. Keep scrolling—lots of inspo ahead!
This one has become a TikTok classic and I’m glad it’s here to stay. Curtain bangs work well for so many different face shapes and hair types—they’re truly universal. I took the plunge and got them myself a few months ago and never looked back. They just frame your face so well.
If anyone could come up with a few clever ways to form heatless curls, it would be TikTok users. Folks used everything from T-shirts to velcro rollers to create voluminous, bouncy curls sans the damage. This one tops my list of must-try styles because it’s so simple and you really have nothing to lose by trying it.
This trend came courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton who shared a genius high ponytail hack that helps your hair appear thicker. It works like magic and adds even more volume to an otherwise flat pony.
The amount of adorable bubble braid styles I saw on my FYP. this year was overwhelming. There are so many ways to rock this one and they’re not too hard to style yourself. You can opt for a single braid or multiple, either way, it’s a TikTok-ready look that will never go out of style.
TikTok is booming with various types of pixie cut trends. From the edgy pixie cut to the Korean pixie to the layered pixie cut, there’s a variation for everyone. If you’ve been wanting to try a bolder, shorter chop, this is the one time I will actually suggest going down a TikTok hole. I can guarantee you’ll find a version you like.
Stylists and TikTok users alike are embracing the blunt bob. Believe it or not, this hairstyle is actually pretty versatile. With the right products, you can add some textured waves, add volume at the roots, or add bangs for an even more polished look.
I didn’t realize I’d been doing my messy high bun all wrong until I came across this easy hack on TikTok. Naturally, it was so good it took the platform by storm. It makes your bun look so effortlessly chic with just the right amount of mess to it. It’s piecey and loose yet polished and could be worn to the office.
Having naturally curly hair myself, I was excited to see a ton of curly haired queens on TikTok cutting their curls into blunt bangs or curtain-style bangs. Curls naturally have a bit more volume than straight hair and adding bangs gives them even more of a boost.
Y2K hairstyles made a comeback in a big way on TikTok this year, and celebrities like Dua Lip and Gigi Hadid rocked a few, too. E-girl hair, baby braids, pigtails, and accessories like butterfly clips were especially prominent during the summer months. Although it’s now winter, I still think each of these looks works year-round. I’m also still happy to pin each of these look ideas to my 2023 mood board for inspo next year.
Arguably one of TikTok’s most popular haircuts this year, the wolf cut adds depth and dimension to an otherwise shaggy mullet. The great thing about this haircut is that you can make it work for any hair type or texture. It’s definitely not a wash-and-go style, but with the right texturizing spray, it can look perfectly piecey and layered.
