Has Late-Night TV Actually Gotten Worse in Trump 2.0?

It all began with tears.

The host “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” cried in front of a live audience the night after the Nov. 5 presidential election. Kimmel welled up after sharing a litany of fear-mongering woes tied to Donald Trump’s electoral victory.

Yes, that’s the same comic who looked the other way when Team Biden silenced dissent, weaponized lawfare against its political opponents and handed Afghanistan back to the Taliban.

No tears then. And he wasn’t done blubbering.

Kimmel cried anew over the devastating California fires, but not over the pain and suffering felt by the locals. His tears came when recalling President-Elect Trump’s reaction to the carnage.

The officials who made the problem exponentially worse got a pass.

His fellow late-nighter picked up that theme, ignoring Democratic incompetence to attack Trump, the person who had nothing to do with the fires. All Trump did was blast local leaders and warn their policies could lead to devastation.

Kimmel and co. ignored LA Mayor Karen Bass’ gargantuan URL gaffe, a gift-wrapped present to any third-rate satirist.

Late-night shows have only gotten worse since then.

Take the first Fake News story of 2025 – Elon Musk made a Nazi salute at Trump’s inauguration gala. It’s preposterous on the surface or any way you slice it. The tech mogul has fought for free speech and recently visited a former Nazi death camp alongside Jewish podcaster Ben Shapiro.

Musk is famously awkward and describes himself as being on the Autism spectrum. He routinely makes gestures that prove it.

The gesture in question came with this statement, “My heart goes out to you.”

Worst. Nazi. Ever.

Tell that to late-night propagandists, who followed the corrupt media’s lead to make this non story part of their comic repertoire.

Colbert led the way.

“Wow, that sure looked like what it was,” Colbert quipped. “Now, I don’t know if Musk intended to do a Nazi salute. He says he is not a Nazi, but what I do know is people who aren’t Nazis know how to avoid doing a Nazi salute.”

He wasn’t done.

“For the last 80 years of human history, there are only a couple of acceptable positions for a fully extended arm, OK? It goes: pet the puppy, tousle your nephew’s hair, and hail a cab. OK? In between nephew down here and hail a cab up here, this is called the danger zone. Everybody knows that!”

How do you explain this, then?

Or this?

At least Jon Stewart, who prides himself on being a cut above his fellow late-night liberals, didn’t fully embrace the Fake News angle. He also didn’t mock those who pretended Musk actually performed a Nazi salute.

That’s the best we can expect from late-night “humorists” in Trump 2.0.

Kimmel admitted prior to the election that he wasn’t emotionally ready to process a Kamala Harris loss. Maybe that’s why he’s still embracing the Russian Collusion Hoax.

Kimmel “honored” Trump’s 20th wedding anniversary to First Lady Melania Trump by peddling that lie anew. He said the Commander in Chief celebrated the milestone by posting “a long love letter to Vladimir Putin and Russia.”

Does he need an intervention or even a “facility” check-in a la Rob Reiner?

Seth Meyers is quietly the most partisan host of the bunch. He described President Trump’s inauguration speech as, “An unsettling low-energy mix of ominous fascism and weird s*** that no one except Donald Trump and his minions even care about.”

What was fascistic about it? Who knows? Who cares? It’s just a word Leftists toss around. The same hosts ignored the “Police State”-style actions of the previous administration, showing it’s all smoke and mirrors meant for ratings.

But what ratings?

Late-Night TV is in decline. “The Tonight Show” axed its Friday episodes late last year. “Late Night with Seth Meyers” can no longer afford its house band.

The shows collectively draw a fraction of the revenue they once did.

And the format’s upstart, Fox News’ “Gutfeld!” routinely trumps them in the ratings. Yes, Greg Gutfeld’s show airs at 10 p.m. ET, but it’s also on cable TV which has far fewer viewers than broadcast channels.

It’s only January, but late-night TV has already hit new lows. Will the hosts start chasing away its loyal progressive flock?

Stay tuned.
