I’ll be the first to admit I am a very picky person. I like my clothes folded and hung in a certain direction and color-coordinated. I like my scrambled eggs cooked exactly right (rich and creamy—never fully cooked through). And I like my sweaters to be the absolute softest against my skin. Coarse fabrics and itchiness simply will not do! My sweater snobbery means that I’m always searching, trying, and asking my fellow fashion editors what brands, retailers, and specific styles that are leading the pack in cushy comfort. In fact, today I wanted to share some of the best soft-sweater suggestions courtesy of my fellow editors, who get to try, touch, feel, and see plenty of cozy knits on a regular basis. Scroll below for their suggestions so you can snuggle up in style .
“This is basically like wearing a big, soft blanket, but in the chicest way possible. I can’t wait to wear it for my next flight.”
“I’m always thrilled when I find really soft sweaters that aren’t at a cashmere price point. This one is best described as cloud-like.”
“These cashmere sweaters from COS are the perfect crew-neck shape and so incredibly soft. You can snap them up in a range of colors, from neutrals to bold statement shades.”
“Pistola’s denim gets a lot of attention (it is pretty great), but its sweaters are easily some of my favorites of all time. This sweater keeps you warm and toasty to the point that you might not even need a second layer. It’s also solid proof that you don’t necessarily need to resort to cashmere to get the job done.”
“But when I am in the mood for super-sumptuous cashmere, I make a beeline for Aritzia. The bulk of my “work sweaters” are from the brand. They always look elevated, and I’d say they’re pretty well priced for the quality. Some cashmere can pile by the end of the season, but these have held up well in my wardrobe year after year.”
“Vince cashmere sweaters are just divine. They’re so soft and versatile. An investment that you’ll have in your closet for years and years.”
“Equipment is known for its silky button-down blouses, but the brand also happens to make amazing cashmere sweaters. They are classic and timeless and have the perfect relaxed fit.”
“I recently tried some pieces from Monrow, and the brand has some seriously soft and comfortable sweaters! This cashmere-blend cardigan is warm, soft, and comfortable, yet it feels light to the touch. I recommend wearing it with its matching scarf.”
“I’m always pleasantly surprised at how soft and comfy Topshop sweaters are. I bought a few last year from Nordstrom, and I reach for them all the time. That’s so good considering their affordable price point.”
“I have such a great variety of sweaters, yet I often choose this simple wardrobe staple because of how soft it is. Even though most of my other sweaters are quadruple the price, my $20 H&M sweater just hits differently. I have so much fun layering it, and it’s been a work-from-home staple these past few years. The brand rarely repeats styles, but this one is such a best seller it’s still available!”
“I’m picky about sweaters, and one of my favorite brands for knitwear is Sézane. I own quite a few pieces from the brand, but my all-time favorite is this recent sweater I got. It’s not only incredibly soft, but it’s also the ideal oversize fit for those winter days when you just want to be cozy. “
“Never have I ever felt a sweater softer than the ones I own from Khaite. Obviously the price is substantial, but one Khaite sweater is a better investment than 10 non-Khaite ones—guaranteed.”
“I just unboxed this camel-colored cashmere vest from Everlane and it’s the absolute coziest.”
“This luxe mohair sweater is as opulent as it is cozy. I wear this to work from home at least once a week.”
