DJ Akademiks says that Young Thug isn’t one of the hottest rappers in the game because he just doesn’t sell enough records.
“Btw I’m honest as I said .. any artist who don’t sell 100K ain’t a big dawg! Even thug,” DJ Akademiks tweeted. “I look at thug as an exec tryna push YSL than consider his solo efforts sort of where Rick Ross was at when he started pushing MMG more than his own music. Thug still a legend but #s don’t lie.”
Thugger’s new album is on track to sell about 82,000 equivalent units, but Drake could also be doing the same after being in the charts for weeks.
Thug’s highest album release was just over 130,000.
In July, Ak says Drake is the best rapper out.
“Drake had an ironclad hold on the game consistently, for ten-plus years. Jay was one of the top 5. Some years he was 1, some years he was 2, some years he was 3. But I think what he gave to the game, in terms of people, influence, his impact, people cloud their thoughts in thinking about it to say he’s the best,” he said.
DJ AKADEMIKS MAKES THREATS
“I think what we’re looking at with Drake, is we give him props for helping other artists, but that artist could have competed with you at some point. There’s a point, where if you go back to 2015, when Future was so hot. Maybe Future could have toppled Drake,” he continued.
