A TikToker is suing comedian Michael Che, alleging that he stole a joke from her videos for use in his HBO Max show “That Damn Michael Che.”
Kelly Manno claims her “Homegirl Hotline” bit was stolen by Che without her permission for use in his HBO Max show.
Manno’s “Homegirl Hotline” sketches portray various hilarious situations where people have to call in a “homegirl” to save them and solve their problems.
She has over a million followers.
Che now has a similar sketch on his show.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, she says she came up with the idea where “people unable to cope with certain social situations can call a hotline and order a ‘home girl'” to help them out. She says that Che’s “homegrrl” bit was “willful copyright infringement.”
According to the suit, the TikToker said that each segment ended with a character saying a variation of “thank you, homegrrl.” Her copyright includes the phrase, “Thank you, HomeGirl Hotline!”
