Police have detained Chinese-Canadian pop star Kris Wu on suspicion of rape.
Beijing cops say the singer allegedly “repeatedly seducing young women into having sex,” according to a statement.
Last month, a woman named “Du Meizhu” alleged she was sexually assaulted when she was a student at the Communication University of China in Beijing.
The rapper is accused of supplying teenagers with alcohol so that he could have sex with them. Du Meizhu says he did this to her when she was 17. The age of consent in China is 14.
Chinese tabloid Global Times reported that Wu previously attempted to pay Du about 500,000 yuan ($77,166) in hush money to stay quiet with her story. She has started paying the rapper back so that she can take him to court.
Wu has been dropped by Louis Vuitton, who had signed the singer as a brand ambassador.
“Louis Vuitton takes the recent accusations concerning Mr. Kris Wu very seriously and as such suspends its collaboration with the artist until the investigation is concluded,” it said in a statement at the time.
Wu denies the allegations against him.
