Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, will be stepping down as her conservator after 15 years.
Jamie Spears has been the one in charge of her conservatorship since the star’s mental health breakdown in 2008.
He said she was “suffering mentally and emotionally, she was also being manipulated by predators and in financial distress,” and that he “came to his daughter’s rescue to protect her.”
But Britney says he was abusive and that he and others should go to jail for the way they have treated her.
In his statement, Britney’s attorney said they wee “disappointed” by Jamie’s “ongoing shameful and reprehensible attacks” — and called on him to step down right away. “Rather than making false accusations and taking cheap shots at his own daughter, Mr. Spears should remain silent and step aside immediately,” Mathew Rosengart said.
Jamie has not yet stepped down. He says he wants an “orderly” transition and will do it when “the time is right.”
