Scott Baio Defends Cheryl Hines Against Hollywood Bullies

Scott Baio knows what it’s like to see your Hollywood career fade to black.

The “Happy Days” alum says he was “cancelled” in 2017 after decades in the industry. Why? He spoke at the RNC Convention on behalf of Donald Trump. His Twitter bio reads, “happily retired actor.”

That’s no coincidence.

So when he saw “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Cheryl Hines attacked for daring to support her husband it hit home. Said husband is Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who last month ended his presidential campaign and threw his support behind President Donald Trump.

“West Wing” star Bradley Whitford attacked her on X and The Hollywood Reporter warned she could experience a “full-scale shunning … by the Hollywood establishment.”

“I feel bad for her… she shouldn’t be vilified like she is. She loves her husband. Her husband did the right thing for him,” Baio told The Hollywood in Toto Podcast.

“I don’t think she’s used to this … she’s been a Kennedy, a liberal, and now she’s seeing what it’s like. Don’t be surprised if she doesn’t become a Republican. She’s seeing what it’s like when you go against the mainstream media and the liberal party. This is what happens. I do feel bad and hopefully it’ll all work out for her.”

Baio may be unofficially retired, but he’s open to the occasional gig that speaks to his values. It’s why he’s playing a major role in “God’s Not Dead: In God We Trust.” Baio co-stars as a sleazy operative helping a congressman (Ray Wise) stave off a fight from Reverend Dave (David A.R. White), the franchise’s returning hero.

“Whatever is good in the moment is what these people will do,” Baio said of his character.

The film, the fifth in the faith-friendly series, touches on real-world issues Hollywood avoids. The last chapter, for example, explored efforts to stop Christians from home-schooling their children.

“In God We Trust” finds secular politicians demanding faith stay far from the Body Politic.

Suffice it to say Reverend Dave disagrees.

Baio has another, more personal reason to join the “God’s Not Dead” franchise.

“I’ve been politically active for a number of years … I’m only doing this for my daughter. I want my daughter to grow up in a country I grew up in … we’re getting so far away from the Constitution which has been bastardized.”
