Comedians took a knee the moment Barack Obama became the nation’s first black President in 2009.
Earlier, actually, but you get the idea.
They collectively stood down, refusing to speak truth to power in ways that might hurt the president. And, of course, they wanted him to succeed and realized a negative comic narrative could hurt him politically.
The show “gave up on the whole Obama thing” comedian and former cast member Jay Pharaoh said.

The same is true for Vice President Kamala Harris.
We’ve spent three-plus years waiting, and waiting, for comedians to poke fun at the Vice President. That waiting was mostly in vain, leaving web-based critics to do the heavy lifting.
“Saturday Night Live” has barely mentioned Harris. Late-night comedians steered clear of her, except when it came to defending her from “racists” and “sexists.”
“The Daily Show” proved no different. Except on one startling night the Comedy Central series targeted Harris with the ultimate putdown.
She’s just like VP Selina Meyer, the empty-headed vessel on the HBO series “Veep.”
It’s not a new revelation. The “Ruthless Variety Progrum” made the “Veep”-Harris connection earlier in the Biden/Harris presidency.
“The Daily Show’s” variation might have been mild, but it captured Harris’ word salad stylings so well it likely stunned the show’s hard-Left viewers.
They’ve been shielded from Harris’ affinity for phrases like “unburdened” that dot her public speeches. For them, this felt like either a revelation or political blasphemy.
Not after this, though.
A funny anecdote?
“Veep” creator Armando Iannucci has taken great pains to tell us his creation bears no similarities to Vice President Harris.
The aforementioned clip suggests otherwise, but we should enjoy it while we can.
The next four months will find few mainstream humorists targeting Harris in any way, shape or form. They’ll turn all of their attention on President Donald Trump and figure out ways to prevent a second Trump presidency.
And, should Harris secure the White House come November, sketches like this may become a distant memory.
