Morgan Wallen Leaves Cancel Culture in the Dust

A single slur nearly ended Morgan Wallen’s career.

The singer, already on the media’s naughty list for disobeying COVID-19 protocols, was caught uttering the “n-word” during a private exchange shared by TMZ.

His career collapsed in every meaningful way. He apologized immediately, checked himself into therapy and put his professional life on pause.

Except his fans never left his side.

Slowly, Wallen’s career came back from the brink. The cancellations slowed. Country Music, Inc. stopped banning his music from the airwaves.

And, before long, he was an even bigger star than before.

The media howled at his redemption arc. Stay canceled, they cried in so many words. The Washington Post wanted to cancel country music in general, using Wallen’s PR nightmare as the excuse.

Now, he can’t find arenas large enough to contain his fan base. So he’s settling for stadiums. Billboard.com reports the singer just added 10 new stadium gigs to his bustling 2024 tour schedule.

And he recruited the Manning brothers to break the news.

Wallen is extending his One Night at a Time tour, with 10 new stadium dates added for 2024. The dates include Lucas Oil, US Bank and Allegiant stadiums.

“Thank y’all for an insanely fun and fulfilling 2023 tour … It was impossible for me to hit every stadium that I wanted to in 2023, so we’re gonna keep this tour going in 2024. See y’all out there!” the singer said in a statement shared by Billboard.

The tour promises to keep Wallen’s career red hot deep into 2024, and he’ll cap the year by playing London’s iconic O2 Arena.

Wallen, who’s nominated for entertainer of the year at Nov. 8’s CMA Awards, named the tour after his third Big Loud studio album, which spent 15 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart after its March release, making it the longest-running stint at the top for a country album in more than 30 years. The project’s single “Last Night” remained at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 16 weeks and was crowned Billboard’s Song of the Summer.

The most interesting part?

Some corrupt press outlets reported the news without affixing the “n-word” controversy to his name.

The LA Times, to no one’s surprise, proved an exception. So did CBS News despite the brevity of the article in question.

USA Today trumpeted the news, by comparison, noting that a portion of the ticket sales will go to the Morgan Wallen Foundation. The nonprofit promotes sports and music programs for children and offers support in times of natural disasters.

The group’s web site notes that, “three dollars from every concert ticket Morgan sells goes to support the foundation’s work.”

It’s worth noting that the First Son repeatedly used the “n-word” in text messages and the social media mob ignored his actions. So did 99 percent of the media.
