My 7 Favourite Street Style Trends From New York Fashion Week

In the blink of an eye, New York Fashion Week came and went. For a brief moment a school of fabulously fitted influencers, stylists, editors and designers all appeared in the American fashion capital to witness the offerings of the best designers in town. Whilst the runways lit up with daw-dropping designs, the city streets were privy to outfits that were equally eye-catching.

Below I have chronicled seven of my favourite trends spotted in the streets of New York this fashion week. Read on to discover the sharpest street style ideas straight from New York.

Keeping it simple, show-goers were spotted in cleverly layered monochrome outfits. Focusing on excellent cuts and considered accessories, New York’s fashion elite showed us that sometimes, simpler is better.

Style with the co-ordinating look for a low-effort, high-impact outfit.

Layering up with a white shirt and black accessories.

The perfect evening dress.

The Row does elegant tailoring like no other.

This summer saw the classic waistcoat step away from the three-part suit to become a wardrobe hero in its own right. Looking towards SS24 it’s clear that the waistcoat will remain in favour, but with a few key upgrades. Seen in New York in longline shapes and with varying necklines, the new season’s shapes are looking smarter than ever.

This deep green tone is perfect autumn styling.

Style with the top two buttons undone to create a chic collar.

The deep-V is the perfect base for layering necklaces.

Simple yet effective.

We’ve seen the style set ditch high-waisted jeans in favour of low-rise styles over the past few months and now it seems that trend has moved onto dresses. Much like 1920s, the 2020s are seeing waistlines drop, for an elongated torso and added visual interest.

Strapless dresses are trending this season.

Pair with simple sandals or knee-high boots.

This looks more expensive than it is.

This scallop-trimmed dress pairs perfectly with natural fabrics.

Nothing screams chic like a perfectly oversized blazer, so as fashion week rolled around, it was only natural that the fashion set were out en-mass styling the formidable garment. Worn with equally oversized layers, the boxy blaxer was right at home on the NYC streets this week.

According to the Who What Wear UK team, this is the perfect oversized blazer.

This generously sized garment pairs well with jeans or dresses.

I’ve been eyeing up this blazer since its release.

Style with a white tee or an elegant blouse.

A stark difference to the Copenhagen Fashion Week attendees, the New York City lot swapped beige and brown for all things bold. Block prints and fierce florals peppered the streets offering a playful tonic to the runway looks inside.

Layer up with knee high boots and a leather jacket as we move into the cooler months.

No brand does prints quite as well as Rixo.

If you asked me to find you the perfect autumn/winter dress, I would guide you to this number.

Everything about Prada is luxurious.

Deny it all you want, pedal pushers and their baggy friends are back with vengeance for SS24. Styled up with retro accessories, the longline shorts were a fashion favourite on the city streets this week.

Ease into the long-line shorts look with this smart set from The Row.

Style with a navy cashmere jumper and knee boots when the weather starts to cool.

So retro. So chic.

This comes in five other colours.

Whilst silver trousers and skirts are a London-girl favourite, the New Yorkers have opted for the bolder metallic, favouring statement items in glistening gold.

The perfect party top.

Metallic midis are right on trend.

This glistening halterneck is calling my name.

Dip your toe into the gold trend with this iridescent trousers.
