Our style can be influenced by many things including our favorite celebrities, the runways, places we’ve traveled, our friends—you get the idea. There are nearly endless sources of fashion inspiration. For the Who What Wear team, cities have always been a major style influence, specifically the cities we’ve called home over the years. This summer, we’re going back to our roots and using these special places as inspo to create our best fashion and beauty looks with a little help from our favorite affordable retailer, Walmart. With so many on-trend brands to choose from, Walmart will ensure a stylish summer is in your future whether you live on the East Coast, the West Coast, or anywhere in between.
“I’ve lived in Los Angeles for over 16 years, so this city has had a massive effect on how I dress. I’ve learned to dress in light layers (e.g. this cardigan) because while it’s usually warm and sunny, the nights can be crisp. I find L.A. outfits are generally more colorful and optimistic than their coastal cousins in New York, so this pretty lilac hue feels on point. The accessories also come into play. A heel is totally doable, even from day to night, since we pretty much drive everywhere! The raffia bag also nods to the fact that the beach and year-round summer weather is certainly part of the aesthetic here.” — Kat Collings, editor in chief
“I’m all about a lash moment because I think long, curled lashes are the quickest way to look more awake, and there’s something kind of flirty about them. I also think a healthy glow achieved with bronzer and blush is pretty much a necessity in Los Angeles, particularly when summer comes around.” — Collings
“Born and raised in the Midwest, I can confidently say that city life in Chicago has influenced my style. Elevated basics and modern staples have become a mainstay in my wardrobe, but I also love to lean on laid-back, Western-influenced looks inspired by casual summers spent in Wisconsin. This is the perfect outfit to combat the ever-changing temperatures while looking effortlessly stylish. I’m always one for a jean jacket—it’s the perfect piece for a carefree look during cool summer nights.” — Bailey Burke, influencer marketing associate
“My go-to beauty look is a girl-next-door, dewy, fresh face with a swipe of lip tint. Bronze cheeks and long lashes are staples for me. I like to keep my everyday hair au natural, but in the summertime, I love to throw in some beach waves to add texture.” — Burke
“I’m a Florida girl through and through, and it’s most apparent in the way I dress. I naturally gravitate toward color even during the winter, which is not the norm for NYC (where I currently live) city dwellers who love a good neutral moment. But an outfit without at least one pop of color simply doesn’t feel like me. Not to brag, but I’ve been dopamine dressing since before the term even existed. I’ve always been inspired by the warm, tropical climate and fun patterns and prints that Floridians wear all year round, and I take those elements with me everywhere I go. I love this look because it follows my summer uniform to a T: flowy maxi dress, gold accessories, and a platform sandal.” — Aniyah Morinia, editor
“My beauty routine for summer can be encapsulated in two words: heavy blush. It’s my favorite and the most complimented part of my routine. I love having a flush of color on my cheeks in the summer to give that tan and sun-kissed look. When the sun hits my cheeks, it’s nice to have that pop of color. I mean, summer is all about spending time outdoors, basking in the sun, and taking a million selfies to prove it, so why not give blush the moment it deserves?” — Morinia
