Spotting Mary-Kate or Ashley Olsen not wearing The Row from head to toe is about as rare as spotting the actors and fashion designers, who are notoriously private, at all. Really, the only time we do see them in another brand is when they trade in their high-end The Row loafers, boots, or slip-ons for sneakers—and not only expensive ones.
From $55 Vans to $85 New Balances, fashion ’s favorite siblings have more than mastered the high-low look thanks to their vast sneaker collections . (It helps when the high end of the spectrum is a $2000 cashmere duster coat, but that’s a topic for another day.) Below, shop the sneakers most worn by the Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. My suggestion? Don’t wait. Knowing their level of influence, sizes won’t last long.
On Ashley Olsen: New Balance 574 Sneakers ($84). Ashley was spotted leaving The Row offices in a casual chunky-sock-and-sneaker combo paired with a duster, blanket scarf, beanie, and classic black sunglasses . Specifically, she chose an extremely approachable pair of New Balance 574 sneakers.
550s are almost always sold out or being up-sold on the resale market. In other words, get this pair while it’s still in stock.
On dads in Ohio and models in London.
For the sneakerhead who hates having the same pair as everyone else.
Now that’s a color scheme.
On Mary-Kate Olsen: Vans UA Classic Slip-On Sneakers ($55); The Row Andres Cotton and Silk-Blend Wide-Leg Pants ($1190). Last winter, Mary-Kate was seen out and about in NYC wearing a tweed maxi coat, silk pants from The Row, and every angsty teenager’s favorite $55 slip-on Vans.
This vintage-looking pair of Vans will make everyone who sees you wearing them want them too.
Meet you at the skate park.
I’m bias toward this platform version.
Emo is back, which means it’s time for a new pair of checkerboard Vans.
On Ashley Olsen: Adidas Sambarose ($137); The Row Andres Cotton and Silk-Blend Wide-Leg Pants ($1190) and bag. Ashley made a case for ditching the now-ubiquitous Adidas Sambas and buying a pair of Sambarose sneakers, a lifted alternative, instead. Helping her argument was the pair of silk pants and a croc-embossed bag, both from The Row, that she styled with them, as well as a rust-colored sweater and duster coat.
A fashion -girl favorite.
Gazelle’s are the next retro Adidas sneakers to come back.
Excuse my drooling.
In my dreams, I’m wearing these Gucci x Adidas sneakers.
On Mary-Kate Olsen: Loewe sneakers. Mary-Kate took a break from affordable sneakers in Loewe’s fashion-favorite Flow Runners, which she paired with a bright-red wool coat and black trousers for a day at The Row offices in NYC.
These are a low-key flex.
Loewe’s creative director Jonathan Anderson loves On sneakers, and his taste is impeccable.
These will never go out of style.
White sneakers are forever.
On Mary-Kate Olsen: The Row Marie H Cotton-Canvas Trainers ($553) and Andres Cotton and Silk-Blend Wide-Leg Pants ($1190). Mary-Kate arrived at the Hôtel de la Marine in Paris for a dinner celebrating Balenciaga’s haute couture collection during Paris Fashion Week in July wearing an all-black ensemble, apart from her sneakers, which are entirely white and from The Row. Ashley’s been known to don the same pair, called the Marie H trainers.
Don’t worry about keeping these spotless. Mary-Kate and Ashley are famous for scuffing up pricey, designer items (see: Mary-Kate’s destroyed Hermès bag).
Just the right amount of color.
Let’s bring back no-laces sneakers. They’re always getting in the way.
The perfect slip-on-and-go shoes.
