I’m a Former Nordstrom Buyer—I Fixed the Holes in My Closet With These 7 Items

Over the last season, Susie Wright noticed a few holes in her closet and set out to update her wardrobe with swaps. Given her chic style and her fashion background as a former Nordstrom buyer and current stylist and blogger, we were certainly intrigued by the items she’s recently added to her mix.

Below, you’ll find a list of the pieces that help pull her outfits together. There is a range of items that are highly versatile and easy to style, including a trending shirt silhouette and a wear-everywhere jacket style. Keep scrolling for all of that and more as well as visual inspiration from Wright and shopping recommendations if you, too, want to add one (or a few) of the items to your own wardrobe.

On Wright: Farm Rio dress. “I’ve been looking for a dress that I can wear to several different events: a wedding, a nice dinner, and a night out on a work trip. This one received many compliments, and many people I know have purchased it and have sent me selfies of themselves in it. It’s a good one!”

On Wright: Frame trousers. “Black pants are a wardrobe staple, and the trick is to find a pair you’ll wear with everything. They should be modern as well as versatile and flattering. These Crop Mini Trousers by Frame keep selling out, so grab a pair while you can! Now, they’re available in a great camel too.”

On Wright: Frame jeans. “Wide-leg denim, or flare styles, are the most important piece to add to your wardrobe right now. Everyone can wear them because they’re so flattering, and they’ll update your closet stat!”

On Wright: Citizens of Humanity shirt; Frame jeans. “Oversize poplin shirts have become a closet staple this past year, and one in a bright color or a sophisticated neutral will get lots of wear. They look great over everything, so they’re versatile and stylish at the same time!”

On Wright: BlankNYC jacket and Norma Kamali dress. “I’ve noticed that denim jackets are showing up in new colors and bringing feminine details like puff sleeves. There are also shorter styles that look great with dresses. Lots of options to help you branch out from your basic jacket—try a new look!”

On Wright: Mother dress. “Many of us need hybrid wardrobes—ones that work seven days a week. A casual shirtdress is easy to wear. Try one for a business-casual meeting or for lunch with your girlfriends.”

On Wright: Paige sandals. “Metallic shoes and bags are everywhere right now, and this is a trend you’ll love because they’re very versatile and fun. Look for shiny shades of gold or subtle shades of silver—anything metallic works!”
