While Everyone Can’t Stop Talking About Mini Skirts, I’m Wearing Its Antithesis

It would be an understatement to say that we’re in the middle of a mini skirt renaissance. Since Miu Miu’s spring-summer 2022 collection filled with cut-off pleated mini skirts crashed landed last October, the trend has been rising steadily to the forefront. Now that it’s actually summerfashion’s collective conscious can’t get enough of the itty bitty staple—and accordingly, they’re everywhere. But of course, fashion loves to operate in extremes; and just as the mini skirt has taken hold, so has its direct opposite—the maxi skirt.

Since the idea of wearing something so short has always given me pause (I also hardly ever wear mini dresses), despite loving the look of a mini skirt, it’s not a trend I’d actually consider wearing in real life. The maxi skirt, however, is an entirely different story. For me, it’s way more accessible and beginner-friendly than its micro counterpart, and depending on the cut and shape can be equally as seductive. Right now it’s the number one piece I’m adding to my summer wardrobe, so I thought I’d share the results of personal online browsing. From 90s-inspired column cuts to sophisticated pleats, see the full range of skirts currently commanding my attention, along with a few images of styling inspiration to get your sartorial juice flowing.

I love how this is a part of a suit, so you can wear it together or as two separate pieces.

There’s a matching skirt, and FYI I’m definitely buying that too.

This shade of lilac is gorgeous.

Just like a slip dress, a silk skirt can be worn with just about anything.

Stunning doesn’t even describe it.

I can’t get over this color.

A classic.

A sneak peak of what I’m wearing on vacation.

The daisy print is right on the mark for summer.

This feels so 90s to me.

Simply perfect for the temperatures right now.

Especially in the summer, I live for a cut-out.

Airy and elegant.

I’ve always loved a matching set, but my obsession is tenfold when it comes to a maxi skirt set.

Now this is how you do crochet.

Christopher Esber always knows how to turn elegance up a notch.

Big resort vibes.

I’m a huge fan of Meryll Rogge right now.

A high split maxi skirt feels like the ultimate compromise between the mini-skirt craze and the maxi skirt wave.

This will be useful way into the fall and winter.

I have your special occasion outfit sorted.

Yes, denim skirts are back and they’re 100% fun.

The navy polka dot feels retro in the best way.

Style this with a cute crop top for an ideal seasonal outfit.

There are maxi skirts, and then there’s this—a skirt that kisses the floor with its length.

Pretty in pink.
