I Work at a Big Department Store—My Team Unanimously Loves These 8 Trends

Learning about style and trends from different sartorial perspectives is always intriguing. One industry insider who is quite inspiring is Arielle Siboni, RTW fashion director at Bloomingdale’s. Her insights are always spot-on given that it’s her actual job to lead style direction at one of the biggest department stores out there. On that note, we wanted to hear about some of the current trends that she and her team all unanimously love at the moment.

“Summer is always my favorite season, and I love that we all finally have a reason to get excited about getting dressed again,” Siboni said. “We’re going to see people embrace more of a maximalist approach, especially with the return of social plans and events.” The trends in question are all forward yet highly versatile and fun.

“Summer, for me, always has a bit of a bohemian vibe, and the newest trend that falls into this category is crochet. I am obsessed with this crochet cardigan from Helmut Lang and love the idea of wearing it as a cover-up over a bathing suit. A.L.C., Maje, and Vince also have great options, like wide-leg pants, midi skirts, cropped bra tops, and more.”

“Orange is the color of the moment, and for someone who usually wears a lot of black and white, I am having fun figuring out how to incorporate this color into my summer rotation. For those that are more hesitant with color, a swimsuit seems to be the easiest option, like Alexandra Miro’s strapless one-piece.”

“If there was one message that came down the spring 2021 runways loud and clear, it was that we’re going to be seeing more cutouts this season. This was one of the biggest summer trends, and it’s prominent in everything from dresses to tops and bathing suits. There is no shortage of ways to wear this trend, but I have been personally loving it in bright colors and maxi dresses.”

“Bucket hats are back again this summer, and I love a trend that is both practical and cool. Every designer is doing one these days.”

“Resort shirts and shorts have been a go-to of mine for the past few summers when I don’t know what to wear. If I’m feeling a bit more inspired, I’ll break up the set and pair the top back to longer-length jean shorts or wear it over a bathing suit as a cover-up. Add a bucket hat, some beach beads, and lug-sole sandals, and you are good to go.”

“I didn’t think I would be a ‘clog girl,’ but the clog life chose me. I think clogs are the perfect transitional shoe when you don’t want to wear sandals but aren’t yet ready for heavy boots. Plus, they’re almost always slip-ons, and what could be easier than that? Swedish Hasbeens, a brand we recently added to our Bloomingdale’s footwear assortment, has great styles.”

“Retro resortwear is having a moment, and I am loving all of the ’60s floral prints, including these fun psychedelic designs below from Frankies Bikinis, Free People, and WAYF.”

“Terry is a micro-trend that is as comfortable as it is cool. You’ll see this in everything from bikinis to matching sets, bucket hats, and hoodies.”
