R. Kelly has been moved from a jail in Chicago to a New York jail as his trial is set to begin this summer.
Kelly faces charges that include racketeering, sexual exploitation of a child, bribery, kidnapping, forced labor and enticement and his trial in currently set for August 9.
Kelly was arrested in 2019 and is being tried on racketeering charges. Prosecutors say that the disgraced singer ran a criminal enterprise to commit sex crimes against women and underage girls.
It was also revealed that R. Kelly has hired an attorney who previously represented Tekashi 6ix9ine’s alleged kidnapper.

He is now being represented by attorney Devereaux Leon Cannick.
In 2019, Cannick represented Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods member Anthony “Harv” Ellison. Prosecutors accused Ellison of playing a role in the kidnapping of Tekashi69. A jury found Ellison guilty of racketeering, kidnapping, and assault charges. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
Two of Kelly’s attorneys (half of his legal team) quit recently due to infighting.
“Unfortunately, it appears that Mr. Kelly over time has not made the best decisions and I fear he’s doing that now. But it’s not my problem I guess. I wish him the best. I hope he wins this case,” Steve Greenberg told New York Daily News.
