Facebook Oversight Board has upheld the social media platform’s ban of Donald Trump.
Facebook banned Trump following the insurrection in Washington in January, saying he “created an environment where a serious risk of violence was possible.”
Trump used his social media to call his supporters to the Capitol. They then stormed the building and the coup led to five people being killed.
Facebook says they were pleased with the board’s decision as they felt it was “right.”

They also said, “However, while the board has not required Facebook to immediately restore Mr. Trump’s accounts, it has not specified the appropriate duration of the penalty. Instead, the board criticized the open-ended nature of the suspension, calling it an “indeterminate and standardless penalty,” and insisted we review our response. We will now consider the board’s decision and determine an action that is clear and proportionate. In the meantime, Mr. Trump’s accounts remain suspended.”
They reportedly have six months to review how permanent Trump’s suspension will be.
