I hate to admit this, but I’m 100% a last-minute shopper for gifts. Sprinkle in a toddler who won’t stop running around and my semi-new WFH schedule, and I was seriously considering opting for gift cards this year. I’m fully aware that I’m in need of some holiday cheer, which is why I turned to a few general style experts (aka my friends at Who What Wear and a stylist from Neiman Marcus) to change my mood (and mind on the gift cards).
Bobby Schuessler and Caitie Schlisserman, two editors here at Who What Wear, are some of the most thoughtful people I know, but more importantly for the sake of a gift guide, they’re very stylish. (I secretly hope I’m on their lists this year.) I also was able to get in touch with Carolyn Thompson, a stylist for luxury goods at the Neiman Marcus in Chicago (!!), to ask about how to give a gift thoughtfully. This year more than ever, we all need a little surge of happiness, and although we may not be able to give in person, we can still make those on our lists feel special. Whether you have a virtual white elephant party on the books or you’re a newly married couple and need something special for your S.O., trust me when I tell you these three style experts helped me see the light. A tip on hosting a virtual white elephant party this year? Host it via video chat and “unwrap” gifts by revealing a photo or link. Gifts can be purchased online and sent directly to the lucky recipient. Sounds fun, right? Keep reading to see how my peers helped change my mind from gift cards to tangible gifts.
