17 Readers Share What’s on Their Revenge Shopping Lists

Change is a consistent part of fashion. Trends come and go, and there’s always an emerging brand to discover or a call to address the issues of the moment. But change has become a constant in our daily lives and wardrobes since the onset of the pandemic. Not only did readers evolve their style, but the days of dressing up to go out or work in an office were also upended. As vaccines are distributed, it’s no surprise that we’ve seen a rise in what’s been dubbed “revenge shopping” In short, a year of not dressing up, or quarantining, has made us want to ditch our sweatpants and embrace the riskiest of trends. Of course, as editors, we’re always looking forward to shopping for exciting pieces, but we aren’t the only ones. So I reached out to 17 Who What Wear readers worldwide to get an idea of what women are shopping for and looking forward to wearing this summer. Keep reading to see what trends, pieces, and outfits you’ll be able to see out in the wild, wild world.

WHO: Bianca-Francesca Foley. What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I cannot wait to break out some of my favorite dresses from summer 2020 (like my knit maxi Rixo dress).  Will you embrace minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  . Definitely maximalism. I want to wear as much color as I can! Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  With life getting back to normal, I want to wear as much color as possible, so I’m looking forward to wearing big, beautiful dresses in every color imaginable.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  I’m a big advocate for fashion rental, and there are a few pieces I’ve fallen in love with from renting that I may take the plunge and buy this year because I can see myself bringing them out year after year.

I am a massive fan of co-ord sets, and this summer, I plan on wearing a few over and over. This set from Deiji Studios is so versatile.

I love Faithfull the Brand. It’s a gorgeous, ethical brand that makes stunning summer pieces that can be worn year after year.

WHO: Rebecca Olivia . What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I will 100% be reemerging in my Paloma Wool checkered set with some tinted sunnies—hopefully without a jacket (summer is taking its sweet-ass time showing up in London) but maybe with an oversize leather blazer flung around my shoulders.  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  I’m more of a maximalist. I’m obsessed with color, I love prints, and I love a good puff sleeve and a peter-pan collar. The bigger the better! I can’t wait to be out and about socializing properly.

Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  I am crushing on feel-good prints, especially on a ’70s shape like a flare or oversize shirt. I also love retro florals right now, and if we can make it abroad, you bet I’ll be prancing around in a bikini with this print.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  This seersucker minidress is so cute; the pastel coloration makes it a straightforward piece for spring-into-summer dressing. The loose A-line shape also means it’s perf for all those dinners we’ll finally be able to go on. Indoor-dining food comas incoming.

I’m a big fan of a summer hat, and this one is perfect for making a minimal outfit instantly cool and elevated. Sunnier days, here we come!

WHO: Anam Asad. What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I can’t wait to reemerge in this classy streetwear look. I love pairing oversize clothing with elegant pieces such as a neutral-colored shoulder bag or clear heels. The fit of the clothes, the colors, materials, and textures all come together ideally for a comfortable and fashionable summer look.  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  I’ve come a long way with my style and have always leaned toward minimalism. When styling an outfit, I always go for a simple yet elevated look. I combine basics to create new looks with centerpieces such as a textured/pattern top, a colorful shoulder bag, or a printed bandana. My style is constantly evolving, and I’m open to trying new looks with maximal pieces when the world begins to open.  Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  I’m most excited about wearing business casual, relaxed workwear, second skin, loose denim, basics with a twist, monochrome, and simple layering. I find these trends are easier to incorporate into my closet as a modest-dressing Muslim woman and complement my style.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . Thong shoes have made a comeback and are here to stay. This pair can easily be styled with many different outfits and have a short heel for a bit of elevation without compromising comfort.

Oversize blazers come in so many great colors and are the essence of business casual. They are so comfortable to wear and look stylish. They can easily be dressed up with heels and matching bottoms for a monochromatic look or down with jeans and a pair of sneakers for a streetwear look.

The perfect accessory can enhance your summer look to a whole new level. These sunglasses are not only a modern homage to the ’90s but also great to wear on a bright summer day.

WHO: Amelia Wilkinson. What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I absolutely cannot wait to make my grand entrance back into society in this dreamy set from Palytte the Label. I found them on Instagram recently and couldn’t stop thinking about this dress-and-shirt combo until it was mine. I’ve only been able to wear it a couple of times since Scottish weather is pretty unreliable, and like everyone else, I’ve had nowhere to go, but I’m so excited to start wearing this more and more in summer. I adore the breezy, lightweight fabric and the fact that it can be styled in so many different ways. I can already tell it will become a go-to outfit for both days and nights out.  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  . I’m a self-proclaimed minimalist in fashion, but after this year, I’m ready to go all out when it comes to my wardrobe. Now, I’m all about the bright colors, patterns, and dramatic silhouettes this summer (and probably for the foreseeable future, too).

Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  I’m most excited about extravagant, oversize dresses. I’ve been obsessed with designers like Molly Goddard and Cecilie Bahnsen for a while now, and like most people, I’m 100% ready to put away the sweatpants for good and embrace overdressing. Whether I’m going to a beer garden or just out on a walk, I’ll take any excuse to dress in beautiful, brightly colored tulle confections this summer.

What pieces are you eyeing for summer?  I recently purchased my first bag from BY FAR, and as my friends, family, and anyone who follows me on Instagram know, I was so torn between the cream Billy bag I ended up buying and this statement silver one. I’m happy I decided on the easier-to-style option, but I haven’t forgotten about this little beauty, and I’m determined to save up and buy her before the summer is over. It’s the perfect accessory to style up denim shorts and a white tee.

I’m obsessed with these Gimaguas trousers. It’s the coolest little ethical company from Spain, and it’s such a struggle to stop myself from buying absolutely everything it creates. I just think these would look perfect with a cute baby tee or over a bikini on a tropical beach. (A girl can dream.)

WHO: Anabelle Ussher. What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I’ve been so obsessed with wearing anything with ruching and tie detailing. It’s flattering on my body, the fabric has a forgiving stretch, which makes it ideal for dining out, and the color selection with these is endless!  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  Minimalism is my comfort zone, but I’d like to explore and experiment with maximalism when outside finally opens again, whether it be mixing patterns, colors, textures, metals—everything!

Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  There are so many. I love the platform sandals, loose denim, and simple layering trends. They’re something I’ve been nonstop wearing.

I’m also super excited to wear bubblegum pink and monochrome palettes as the world reopens.

I’ve been eyeing all things Kai Collective. Its pieces are so well designed, come in amazing colors, and are flattering on literally every body type. I’ve seen the Gaia collection styled so many ways on Instagram and Pinterest—such a bold yet wearable pattern. It’s inspired. I’m so excited the brand has launched swimwear, another beautiful collection I’m coveting.

WHO: Kathryn Zahorak. What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I find myself gravitating toward matching sets (like my satin Nanushka green set I wore last summer). They feel so effortless and easy.  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  Maximalism, baby. I want to get swept up in textures and colors for summer. I just bought a pair of gold strappy sandals, so I don’t think I am holding back. Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  I adore the retro influences that are coming into trend. Playful prints, florals, anything referencing the ’70s/’90s. I especially love seeing these bold patterns in swimwear.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . I’m always longing for a European summer, so of course, I pull inspiration from my favorite French girls. Rouje makes the sexiest vintage-inspired pieces. I wore one of its dresses in Palm Springs a few weeks ago and felt like Sophia Loren.

A classic staple of the season? Basket bags. I don’t think these are going anyway. I still want the Jacquemus Le Panier Soleil Raffia Tote, and I’m waiting for the restock in yellow. It’s perfect for a trip to the beach or a park picnic with friends.

I got engaged in the summer of 2020, and this summer, I will finally begin the planning process. My bridal inspiration is very much classic and romantic. As an L.A. girl, I will always love Reformation and love this white dress to celebrate.

WHO: Shrutika Gavane. What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I can’t wait to rewear my staple White Cloud Dress by S-ane when the world begins to reopen.  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  . I’m definitely going to continue with minimal styling looks but switch them up with some fun prints and colors.

Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  . Some of the summer trends that I’m most excited about are the built-in G-string trend, retro-looking floral prints, and tinted sunglasses.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . I love an effortless street style look, so investing in an exciting T-shirt in my favorite hue (blue) for the summer is a must.

I love the colors, prints, and patchwork on this summer shirt.

WHO: Maxine Wylde. What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I truly can’t wait for warmer weather so I can hit the town in my incredibly cute Tyler McGillivary miniskirt and Balenciaga pumps—I’m obsessed.  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  . Maximalism, always! Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  . I love miniskirts for the first time in my life (may or may not be influenced by Carrie Bradshaw after binging SATC four times through in lockdown). Also, I love anything pink at the moment; I recently invested in a pair of bubblegum-pink Balenciaga pumps that I’m dying to wear.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . When am I not online window-shopping? The first piece I’ve been eyeing off is this gorgeous textured ACNE Studios top that would look divine with a cute pair of pants, some colored heels, and a cocktail at sunset.

Another piece I can’t stop thinking about is these insanely cool green pants from Paloma Wool. We love them for obvious reasons. (They’re green.)

And lastly, I am dying to get my hands on anything Simone Rocha, particularly this whimsical perspex egg bag. It’s so fun and unique!

WHO: Michelle Duque. Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  . Retro prints, anything pink, cutout pieces, mix and matching different patterns and fabrics. Definitely resort-style pieces to wear casually.  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  I think a bit of both, but my closet would scream maximalism. I can’t pass up a good print or color. But I feel like that helps me stay creative with my wardrobe and trying out new outfit ideas and looks! I try to keep inspired by adding unique pieces and putting together outfits with my staples to give them a new life.

What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I can’t wait to style my Hosbjerg Asta top and matching bottoms for summer. I plan on adding pops of colors with shoes and accessories. And I know for a fact pairing a white tee with these incredible pants will become my staple outfit this summer just to add a little spice to a go-to outfit. I also will be styling all my dresses with my Hope Macaulay Cardigan—the colors in this piece are too good not to wear this summer.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . I am in love with this House of Sunny dress. The print, the cutouts in the back, and the simplicity of the silhouette sold me.

I’m also currently obsessed with the brand Gimaguas and the brand’s whole collection. Its pieces are real gems that I would keep around forever. The Sublime Sunset Micro Top and the matching Sublime Sunset Mini Skirt are serving resort-style chic and cool retro prints.

WHO: Megan Furber. What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I can’t wait to reemerge in my Saks Potts Rose Pants and matching Rose Top. I lusted after this matching set for so long, so since making the plunge into the purchase, I can’t wait to give her the airtime she deserves! Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  As much as I can appreciate minimalism, it’s maximalism all the way for me. I am a magpie for everything girlie, puffy, ruched, basically anything over-the-top or “extra.” Truly, more is more for me when it comes to my style, and I think with coming out of lockdown, what better time to embrace pushing the boat out with what you wear? Make every date in the diary an event to get dressed up for. Big earrings, big headbands, big dresses. I love to see it. Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  I am so excited to be showing my dresses the light of day again! The summer trend of fantastical occasionwear is truly music to my ears. Although for me, this isn’t just a trend for special events. I love to add chunky socks and a trainer and make it daywear. The bigger the sleeve and the more tulle, the better.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . Not to ramble on about Saks Potts all day (although I could do this quite easily), my number one wish list item is another pair of the Saks Potts shimmer pants, this time in Citrus. As an experienced owner of the pink pair, I can tell you these are worth the money if you’re considering it. Do it!

The next piece living in my mind rent-free is this Ganni denim babydoll dress. It’s the back detail for me. Since Ganni launched its Pre-Fall 2021 collection, I haven’t been able to get this baby off my mind. From wellies to loafers, she would work with everything.

For accessories, I think there are so, so many independent designers coming through on this one. My absolute fave at the moment is Roop. They make the perfect summer bags for everything from weddings to picnics. I have my eye on a sparkle one— can you imagine it with the Saks Potts shimmer pants?  And an even bigger plus, this brand is sustainable. Natasha uses deadstock fabric that is not only good for the planet but ensures that every bag is a one-of-a-kind purchase.

WHO: Mimi Orere. Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  As a stylist, I’m obsessed with all the trends for summer. Minimalism relating to tailoring and style of dress but maximalism in terms of color.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . I’m already packing this matching knit crochet set from Dion Lee for my first vacation post-lockdown.

A summer must-have is the dad sandal. I personally am eyeing the sold-out Hermés Takara sandals, as they’re a great investment and a wardrobe staple I’ll be pulling out every year.

WHO: Filipa Simões. What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  It’s all about comfort for me this summer. I want to wear white tops, white shirts, wide-leg tailored, super-relaxed trousers, and comfortable strappy heels.  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  My motto for the summer is “Comfort is fun.” I want to embrace a comfort-focused, minimalist approach. And maybe I’ll mix in statement colors and pieces as I go.

Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  The summer trend that I’m very much into is the visible bra. It’s just perfect for summer—from Jacquemus’s Novio Layered Knit Bra Top to the affordable knit bras from Zara, I can’t get enough of this trend.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . I’m excited to take my Loewe basket out and about on the streets of London. I’m so happy this trend is here to stay for another summer. And as this summer is all about good vibes as we are slowly getting back our freedom, I have decided to invest in the new yellow color. I can’t wait to style it with white flowy dresses.

While neon green is nothing new, I’m super excited about this color trend and for the chance to wear my oversize green blazer. What’s great about this blazer is that you can style it with jeans and a white top or go a little extra and pair it with a zebra-print miniskirt.

WHO: Matilde Mantini. What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  Tailored Bermuda shorts and a white crop top are my go-to during summertime.  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  Even if bright colors and floral prints will arrive at the beginning of summertime, my wardrobe will remain focused on minimalism, with neutral colors, tailored pieces, and gold jewelry.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . A set of trousers and a shirt in white linen are a must on my shopping list. I’m already imagining wearing it to a dinner by the sea with a light summer breeze.

Crochet bucket hats are going to be a summer must-have for me—such a trendy and versatile piece, perfect for hot summer days outside.

WHO: Monique Yates . What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I’m very much looking forward to wearing my nude backless halter-neck dress I picked up from Zara last year. It has a beautiful, sophisticated A-line floaty shape. The perfect dress to style casual in flatforms or trainers and dress up for dinner in strappy sandals. Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  I definitely feel like I’ll be embracing both minimalism and maximalism as the world begins to open up and we creep closer to summer. Right now, I’m loving a neutral palette with an injection of color. I’m looking forward to wearing and sharing my basics for the easygoing Sundays or errand days in the week and throwing in some maximalism looks for those party-mood weekends.  . Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  For someone who doesn’t get too excited over trends, there’s plenty I can’t wait to dive into this summer! I’ve stocked up on everything from super-long, backless, and cutout dresses to bright, bold miniskirts, tailored waistcoats, and trousers.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . I’m so in love with this Staud Rattan Bag that’s recently arrived on the scene. Having been in two minds as to which Loewe bag to get this summer, this came along and trumped those thoughts instantly. It’s such a great ’90s shape, guaranteed to elevate any look. I’d love to pair it with a minimal outfit: Arket white shirt, Levi 501 jeans, and sandals.

I’ve just purchased this pair and can’t wait to wear them with all my neutral outfits this summer. They’re super elegant, comfortable, and will prove great cost per wear!

I can’t stop thinking about this jacket! It’s perfect for those summer evenings out when the temperature drops slightly and is a great take on the usual long-sleeve trench we’re used to seeing throughout spring and autumn.

WHO: Daleeda Soomar. What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  It is, undoubtedly, the summer suit. Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  For someone hoarding on versatile basics, I say, in all seriousness, when I spot a classic white shirt that fits me perfectly, I’m buying no less than three pieces. However, in the past few days, I have been experimenting with color-blocking and prints. As vivid as they get, I am, slowly but surely, shifting toward maximalism in all its glory! Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  Ironically, I was dressed for dinner and drinks when they announced another lockdown here in India. So I’m definitely diving straight into this not-very-me but very risky color-block of swimming-pool blue and vibrant pink once the world reopens.

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . What better than Amina Muaddi’s slingback shoes to wear under the sun this summer? Although I have had my eyes on them for a while, I’ll be treasuring them long after the shift of seasons. One word: timeless!

The lattice detail on the Scylla One Shoulder Bandeau by Irvetta makes it a wardrobe staple. From pairing it with a hat and a sarong on the beach to dinner with flared trousers and pumps makes it a must-have. Talk about elevated basics. Irvetta has the answer to your questions!

Racing green has been a favorite color of late. From pouches to slinky sandals, you can’t miss this statement pair of sunglasses to complement your summer tan. I know I can’t!

WHO: Izzi Allain. Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  I’m really excited to wear bubblegum pink and funky prints. I think these trends are perfect for summer – I’m a strong believer that more colors equal more fun.  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  Maximalism, 100%. I want more color, more prints, more accessories! We’ve been in quarantine for long enough. We need to show everything we accumulated in the past year!

What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  I can’t wait to wear this Charlotte Knowles set to a cute restaurant! The fit is amazing and it’s perfect for a date night (and it’s Beyoncé approved!).

Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . I am in love with these Paris Georgia trousers. I would pair them with a white tank top and some cowboy boots! I love the baggy/Western style.

I am also loving this Selkie dress, I need it for summer. We’ve seen it before, but it’s just so damn good!

WHO: Jasmine Salahuddin. Which summer trend are you most excited about wearing?  This summer, I’m most excited about big, beautiful statement dresses. Exaggerated puff sleeves, fun textures, formal hemlines, I love it all. After a year of wearing casual loungewear, I’m using every outing this summer as an excuse to go big.  Do you think that you’ll be embracing minimalism or maximalism when the world begins to reopen?  This summer, I’ll be embracing maximalism full force! After a year cooped up and choosing comfort over style, I’m ready for color, texture, fun lengths, and special details. I think, more than ever, I’ve enjoyed picking things out that make me happy and spark interest. I’ve felt more emboldened to go with what brings me joy than what’s necessarily trendy. I’m falling in love with playing dress-up again!

What outfit are you most excited to wear this summer?  One outfit I can’t wait to debut for summer is a bold midi or maxi dress with midriff cutouts! Can you share what pieces you’ve been eyeing for summer?  . Dresses with beautiful textures and colors accompanying the fun cutouts like this are at the top of my list.

This summer, I am on a mission for the perfect puffy-strap slide. This summer sandal will definitely be a polarizing one, but styled right, it’s one of the coolest trends for summer ’21.
